Napoleon is a special horse with an insightful perspective of life at Reaching Hands Ranch. He was the very first rescue horse to be taken in at RHR. Now Napoleon is sharing his personal stories of the Ranch through a series of children's books. Each book reflects a character building value taught through the Ranch Hand program offered to youth at RHR. The series is meant for children Pre-K - Third Grade.
The first book in this series is now available! The title is “Broken Trust and New Beginnings”. This book is a thrilling adventure of Napoleon and his amazing journey that led him to Reaching Hands Ranch.
Who is Napoleon? Napoleon is a very special horse at Reaching Hands Ranch. He is a 27 year old Missouri Foxtrotter gelding. Napoleon has arthritis and he is in retirement, with the exception of his important job working with children at RHR. He was the first rescue horse brought to the ranch in May of 2006 and has made it his home ever since.

What is Napoleon like? It can be said that Napoleon is the RHR mascot, manager, director, ranch clown and the horse that can put a smile on your face whenever you are down. Every child, adult, horse or other creature that has ever put a foot, hoof or paw on the ranch knows and loves Napoleon. He is kind, patient and has a wonderful sense of humor. Some of his likes include children, summer baths and hot herbal soaks, lazing in the sun, alfalfa and carrot cake. His dislikes include fireworks, shots from the vet, llamas, grass hay and barrel racing.

Did I mention that he wrote a children's book? It may be hard to believe that Napoleon wrote a book. However, given his many years of experience as a kids horse, trail boss and now youth director at RHR, he is the perfect horse for the task. Can you imagine the adventures he has had out on the trails of the Wild West? Think of the lessons he has taught children most of his life as they learn about horses and how to ride. I am sure he has plenty to teach all of us if we would just listen.
His first book is about broken promises and learning how to trust again. It is an exciting story that leads Napoleon to Reaching Hands Ranch and a greater purpose.
